Sarah Dixon
This is one of Sarah Dixon’s pieces of work. She is an artist who works in many different ways. For my project I am looking at one of her projects where she does close up images of nature and man-made objects. The images all have a very smell depth of field and tend to be half nature and half man made.
Her images a usually very peaceful and calm looking. She uses vibrant colours where the plants are but the man made object are usually duller. The images are very close up allowing you to see all the texture and patterns within the leaves and on the ground. Her images tend to be quite bright meaning at first glance they just look like an ordinary photo. The image in the photo takes up the whole frame meaning there is very little negative space or background.
Sarah Dixon has taken these images on a digital camera and hasn’t really edited them too much afterwards. Most of her images include some blur around the background allowing you to focus on the contrast between man-made and nature. The images are very clear and appear to be quite high quality meaning they must have been made more recently. To take the photos she would of used a small depth of field and probably used a macro setting to allow her to keep the detail in such a close up shot.
In the project I feel that Sarah Dixon is trying to show us how we are destroying the land. By taking images of plants growing next to objects we have created is it showing us how nature wants to take back the landscape. By using vibrant colours in the plants it can represent how we are killing the landscapes beauty and turning it into dull, boring man-made objects. I feel that her work was made for everyone to look at. Her work is there to show everyone that we need to stop destroying the land before it’s too late. I really like her work cause she presents it in a way which is very subtle, as if you just look at the image for a short period of time it may just look like every other good photography but actually it has a deeper meaning.

Sarah Dixon's Work
'The point where a man intrudes into the natural world which can have devastating effects on its inhabitants, since they may become embroiled within our hard, ugly objects in order to survive' - A quote from Sarah Dixon

Development
These are further developments of my Sarah Dixon shoot. These photos have been taken looking down onto the plant as though they are being viewed by a human. The original edits give the feeling that you are in nature rather than looking down at it. This represents humans feeling that they are above nature and therefore have the right to destroy the land to fit there needs when in fact they should live along side nature and not destroy it.
Further Development
These developments have been created by sowing string on the image to create a root pattern onto the image. Excess string was also left to add to this effect.
Hanging Plan
I have chosen these two images out of all of them to go on my hanging plan because i think they are the most similar. They line between image and plain paper is the same on both of the images allowing them to line up nicely.
