Horst Hamann
Horst Hamann is a German photographer who was focused on panoramic photography for the last 20 years. He has several books published of his work with his most famous book “New York Vertical” being one of his best sellers. He has been taking photos since the age of 11 and he’s know as the “Genius of composition” in the New York Times. He has been interested in panorama photography since the beginning of the 1980’s
This is one of his images that has been taken in new your city. It has been taken from a low angle giving it a dynamic composition. The image is in black and white and has quite a high contrast making the detail in the image really stand out. The two buildings at either side of centre building create a frame around the middle building drawing your attention straight to it. The middle building is also brighter than the others making it stand out a lot more. The buildings at the bottom along with the negative space in the sky make all the buildings join together to form one piece. The image Is made up of lots of straight lines. There’s repetition in the image because of all the lines that are on the buildings.
The building at the bottom of the image is quite old looking compared to the other buildings. This to me represents the development that has taken place within New York. The black and white in the image also gives it an older feel and makes the image look a lot more sophisticated than if it was to be in colour.
He uses vertical panoramas to create him photos. This allows him to get a tall vertical look to him images. This means that he can really capture the height of the structures without having to be very far away. Using panoramas can allow him to show the narrowness of the streets compared to the height of the buildings giving the viewer a new perspective of New York.

Hanging Plan
I have put these three images together in my handing plan because the two images on either side both face inward. This draws your attention straight to the middle image which is facing forward. This brings the three images together making them almost like one image.
